    The Patient Financial Services Director (PFSD) is responsible for enhancing and maintaining a properly functioning Patient Financial Services process through cross-departmental organizational structure with the finance, access to care, and outpatient departments. The PFSC will oversee and manage the billing department staff. PFS is defined as all administrative and clinical functions that contribute to the capture, management, and collection of patient service revenue. Responsibility includes maximizing organizations overall financial performance. The PFSD is expected to demonstrate, through plans and actions, a consistent standard of excellence to which all department work is expected, focusing on continuous improvement within the director’s area of influence, and on delivery of the highest degree of quality service possible.


    • Review current operations and workflow processes, and provide action plans for improvement;
    • Experienced leader to work directly with SERV administrative staff;
    • Work closely with CFO and Finance Department;
    • Implement Key Initiatives to improve operations;
    • Review/ Update Current Policies/Procedures;
    • Implement tracking & reporting mechanisms to improve staff accountability;
    • Communicate and standardize processes;
    • Provide hands on training tools;
    • Develop Revenue Cycle Management Committee- for Collection Quality Assurance/Denial Management;
    • Oversee and manage the billing department staff;
    • Ensure process for submission of clean claims, to reduce denials and failed claims;
    • Improve billing, collections, payers, contract issues;
    • Ensure weekly billing, daily 3rd party billing, and collections of co-pays/deductibles at time of service;
    • Provide Good Customer Service tools;
    • Create report process to increase collections and decrease bad debt;
    • Reduce Account Receivable A/R days; A/R analysis issue identification & resolution development;
    • Implement internal departmental audit tools for all processes;
    • Weekly reports/feedback on department status to VP of Access to Care;


    • College degree required, preferably in business, health or public administration, management, or related field.
    • Minimum 7 years management experience in the healthcare receivables field required, with a work record that demonstrates:
    • Professional certification by the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), the American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM) or the National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM) preferred
    • Masters in hospital or business administration, accounting, finance, or related field and closely related clinical discipline preferred; Familiarity with EVOLV system a plus 
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
    • Medical terminology knowledge required;
    • Previous  director experience in one or more of the following Patient Financial Services departments:  Patient Access Services, Health Information Management, Case Management, Patient Accounting; 
    • Experience with Non-Profits & Outpatient services; 
    • In-depth knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, and Managed Care fee for service (FFS) billing and reimbursement;
    • Experience with Leadership in the core values of the organization; a mature approach to problem-solving for all types of issues; skills in PC Computers and computer applications; detail orientation; negotiating skills, experience with total quality management concepts and tools; knowledge of healthcare industry financial statistical indicators and leading practice standards;
