    This position is Residential Counselor (full time and part-time) for our developmental disabilities residential programs in the Mercer, Middlesex, Union, and Ocean/ Monmouth County areas.

    Duties Include:

    • Providing support and education to residents in the areas of Activities of Daily Living and personal care
    • Assisting residents in the pursuit of their individualized IHP goals.
    • Implementing behavior plans under the guidance of a Behavior Specialist
    • Intervening in crises
    • Ensuring that the residence is safe and secure.
    • Transporting residents to doctor appointments and helping advocate for their medical needs.
    • Administering medications
    • Leading group activities on-site and in the community
    • Work as a member of an interdisciplinary team that includes the resident as a full partner
    • Communicate regularly with supervisors, team members, and other providers about residents’’ needs and progress.
    • Documenting all the valuable services you provide.

    Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required.     Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in any human services discipline (psychology, sociology, special education, etc.). Additional qualified candidate can have an Associate’s degree or high school diploma/GED with 1 year of work or life experience or a high school diploma/GED with Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) or as a Home Health Aide (CHHA).


    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Driver’s license valid in the state of New Jersey plus three years driving history and a driving record in good standing.


    Knowledge, Skill and Ability: Good reading and writing skills required. Knowledge of current principles of behavioral healthcare specific to the developmentally disabled and/or mentally ill child, adult and geriatric population.


    Physical Requirements:  All staff must be able to complete Crisis Management Training and implement Crisis Management techniques when needed at all times.


    Additional Requirements: Employee must be 21 years of age and successfully completes DDD Modules of Medication Administration, Overview of Developmental Disabilities, Abuse and Neglect and CPR/First Aid within 120 days of hire. Successfully completes training in agency approved procedure for handling life threatening emergencies/Danielle’s Law and HIPAA training prior to working directly with the consumers. Maintains current CPR/First Aid, CMT and Mantoux requirements.
